Description

The Chargehand  Transportation reports to the Transportation Manager and is a working supervisor responsible for assisting with organizing the safe and efficient installation, repair and maintenance of above ground city infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
    Works closely with the Manager to assign tasks/projects and equipment on a daily, weekly, monthly basis based on corporate priorities and approved budgets in order to safely and efficiently maximize City resources;
    Trains, oversees and participates in the work of staff involved in road, sidewalk, curb and gutter repair and maintenance, snow removal and sanding, and traffic light and sign maintenance.  
    Operates a vehicle for transport of crew, materials, equipment and towed equipment to job site;
    Operates a variety of hand tools and power equipment such as picks, jackhammer, cement mixes, etc.
    Completes daily work records; assists with ordering materials and equipment for repairs;
    Ensures schedules, procedures and established performance safety standards are met;
    Oversees independent contractors to ensure safe and efficient operations;
    Provides crews with direction (and demonstration) on how to safely complete work and monitors progress;
    Communicates with tact and discretion when settling requests, complaints or clarifying information with the public, subordinate staff, outside agencies or other stakeholders;
    Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
    Certificates in Traffic accommodation, urban workzone and ground disturbance preferred;
    Technical or trade certification related to management of municipal infrastructure an asset;
    Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 licence with 3A endorsement is required;
    Three (3) to five (5) years progressive experience in municipal operations and one (1) to three (3) years progressive experience supervising/managing others.
